THE PLACE OF FOREST CONSERVATION FOR SOCIAL PEACE AND A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

UWAKWE, ANTHONY CHIEMERIE
Abstract

The relationship between forest conservation and social peace would be examined in this research, and it would offer a philosophical look at the role of forest conservation in the promotion of a sustainable future. Forest Conservation is the practice of protecting, managing and restoring forest ecosystems to ensure their long-term health and ecological functions. Despite the awareness of the world about the negative impacts of environmental degradation, the unsustainable use of forest resources, and the consequences of forest destruction, the world continues to suffer from the consequences of these unsustainable activities and social unrest, especially for forest-dependent societies. This work aims to philosophically explore the ethical, social, and environmental aspects of forest conservation. The objective of the research would be to explore the ethical responsibility of individuals and society to forest preservation, to examine the relationship between environmental sustainability and social bond, and to offer a plan for the promotion of a sustainable future. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to environmental ethics, social philosophy, and sustainable development by emphasising the role of forest preservation. Various articles, books, and journals were used to obtain materials for the research, and the hermeneutic method was adopted. This method is essential for the research as it provides a deeper understanding of the meaning and interpretation of forest preservation in the context of social peace. Forest preservation, according to the research, is not just important for the environment but also a moral value that could contribute to the unity of society, the well-being of the environment, and the well-being of society.
