This paper examines the provisions of Canon 1274 concerning the administration of temporal goods in the Catholic Church as it relates to the directive which urges the phasing out of benefices. For a fruitful accomplishments of the mission of the church in the world the paper concludes by saying that the benefices need to be phased out but recommends that the church in each nation or region especially in mission territories, should work out 'similar or congruent financial systems' for the needs of their dioceses and for the support of their clergy.
