SURVEY ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RECEPTION AND ITS ECOSYSTEM IN AFRICA

Abstract

In Africa, AI development and deployment in healthcare, agriculture, education, finance, politics, and the socio-cultural life of the people are increasingly visible. Al creation and implementation are daily transforming the lives and cultures of the people of Africa in dyferent ways. This paper, therefore, sets out to investigate the relationship between AI reception and the AI ecosystem in Africa. A social survey design was employed in the study. The research was anchored on reception theory. The study population was drauwfrom the south-south geopolitical zone in Nigeria. Based on the heterogeneous nature ofthe population, a strated random sampling technique was adopted in the study, and a sample size of three hundred 300 respondents was chosen. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The instrument was tested using Cronbach's alpha correlation coefficient, and the result was 0.72, which provided a basis for the instrument's reliability. Simple description statistics of mean and standard deviation were used The findings, among others, were that AI reception greatly influences the AI ecosystem in Africa and that Africa can be involved in the Al ecosystem through good governance and regulations, more government, corporate bodies, and individual investments in AI start-ups and digital media literacy. The study concluded that there is a correlation between AI reception and the AI ecosystem in Africa. The paper recommended that more stakeholders invest in AI ecosystems, functional legal frameworks, and digital media literacy to create more access to and understanding ofAl in Africa.
