This article explored the interplay of police power and violence against African-Americans in Nick Stone's Dear Martin(2017). Qualitative content analysis reveals the nuanced experiences of the main characters as they navigate racial identity, police violence, and social justice, reclaiming their humanity and challenging dominant narratives. Through a critical race theory framework, the article analyses thematic representations of systemic racism, police power, and violence, highlighting how Black identity is criminalised and devalued. The article demonstrates how contemporary African American literature is a powerful tool for resistance, amplifying marginalised voices and advocating for radical change. It contributes to ongoing conversations on racial justice, police reform, and the African-American experience, emphasising the urgent need for policy changes and social reforms to protect Black lives.
