Causality simply connotes the idea that everything has a cause, though for some western scholars, this idea is just a figment of imagination of people. David Hume for instance attributes this to the habit of associating events with causes which is not empirically verifiable. For the African however, causality permeates his cosmology and worldview the idea of chance is completely alien to the African. The universe is an ordered universe where everything is caused and potentially explicable. This study explores the concept of causality in African thought and the implications it portends therein and argues that, though causality is at the heart of the African worldview, it has some implications that should not be overlooked because of the consequences they portend for social relations and development in African societies. The study combined the hermeneutical, analytic, and evaluative methods in its investigation.
