Cyber has been remarkably accentuated by many scholars but lately, it has turned out to be a tool of eminent danger. It is committed by criminals who make use of computer as a tool and the internet as a means of connection in order to reach a variety of objectives such as illegal downloading of music files and films, piracy, spam mailing, access to the account details of their victims and likes. In Nigeria, there is the scourge of internet fraudsters known as cyber boys, which have swindled many unsuspecting victims their hard-earned resources. Interestingly, the teaming youth population are the major players when it comes to this societal menace. Despite various efforts being put in place by the government to forestall the activities of these cyber crime youths, the propagators have sought other avenues to continue to be relevant in their nectarous acts. Broadly, the study was anchored on qualitative research design. Specifically, the study adopted explanatory research design that is based on interviews, logic, rigorous thinking, accessibility to sufficient extant evidences and alternative considerations both in the formulation of research propositions and analysis of generated data which is at the nominal and ordinal levels. It provided the researchers with a structured plan and sources for answering the questions posed in the study. The study traced the trend that led to the engagement of youths in cyber crime; its implication to the sustainable development of Awka. The work therefore recommends the need for social media platforms to regulate the activities of youths via online checkmate and track down those cyber fraudsters.
