Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of ecumenism and interfaith dialogue within Anambra State, Nigeria, focusing on the challenges posed by the proliferation of Christian denominations. Anambra State, a vibrant epicenter of Christianity in Nigeria, experiences significant denominational fragmentation, leading to inter-denominational tensions and competition. This research aims to identify the historical, cultural, and theological factors contributing to these divisions and to propose practical solutions for fostering unity and cooperation among Christian groups. Through qualitative methodologies, including interviews with religious leaders and community stakeholders, the study provides an in depth analysis of the successes and limitations of current ecumenical and interfaith initiatives. The findings reveal critical areas needing attention, such as doctrinal differences, socio-political influences, and resource disparities. The study suggests strategic frameworks to enhance ecumenical collaboration and promote effective interfaith dialogue, emphasizing the importance of inclusive policies, education, and grassroots involvement. By addressing these challenges, the research aspires to contribute to a more cohesive Christian community in Anambra State, fostering peace and cooperation in a region marked by religious diversity. This study offers valuable insights and actionable solutions for enhancing unity and understanding among the numerous Christian denominations in Anambra State.
