Auguste Comte and Karl Marx had regarded the philosophical enterprise as that which belongs to a stage in the development of the human mind; a stage that comes after religion and before science. This obviously affects the allocation of fundamental role to philosophy especially as it concerns contemporary issues like political leadership. In the face of these conceptions of philosophy, the question looming at the horizon of this paper is: has philosophy any value within the parameters of political leadership? This paper, therefore, began with an articulation of the concepts: philosophy and leadership. To guarantee a systematic approach, the paper adopted Bertrand Russell’s theory on the value of philosophy, Plato’s theory of the philosopher King and the Igwebuike theoretical framework around which this paper was weaved. The historical, systematic and thematic methods of inquiry were employed. The paper discovered that philosophy had, and still has a fundamental contribution to make in any sincere effort towards improving on the quality of political leadership.
