GENDER DYNAMICS AND INFLUENCE ON THE FORMATION OF POLITICAL STRUCTURE IN NIGERIA (2010-2018)

Abstract

This study explores the influence of gender dynamics on political structures in Nigeria from 2010 to 2018, utilizing the Feminist theory to understand how gender disparities shape political participation and representation. Research questions explore how gender dynamics shape political formations, influence decision-making processes within institutions, and how feminist perspectives contribute to a more inclusive political landscape. Employing a secondary research method, the analysis examines existing literature, policy documents, and electoral data to assess the impact of gender imbalances on political structures and outcomes. The findings reveal that despite progress in gender inclusivity, Recommendations include, advocating for the rigorous implementation of gender quotas and affirmative action measures to ensure equitable political representation and appointments., passage of Gender Equality Legislation to support the enactment of comprehensive gender equality laws, such as the Gender and Equal Opportunities Bill, to protect women's rights and promote gender-sensitive governance., leadership training programs tailored for women and establishing mentorship initiatives to support and guide aspiring female politicians.Targeted public awareness campaigns and integration of gender equality education into curricula to challenge stereotypes and foster a culture of gender equity. Significant barriers persist, including the underrepresentation of women in political positions and systemic biases that perpetuate gender inequality. These recommendations aim to enhance gender parity in political structures and support the advancement of women in Nigerian politics.
