IDEOLOGICAL APPRECIATION OF SPORT PHILOSOPHY FOR INTEGRAL PERSONAL FORMATION

Abstract

Philosophy of Sport is a minor branch of Philosophy that seeks to conceptually analyze issues of sport as a human activity. It is concerned with questions and practical debates that arise in the context of sport. Identity formation, also called identity development or identity construction, is a complex process in which humans develop a clear and unique view of themselves and of their identity. This research addresses the complex relationship between sport philosophy and identity formation, particularly how participation in sports can both construct and deconstruct personal and social identities. Despite the potential of sports to foster community and individual empowerment, It can also reinforce societal norms and exclusions, leading to identity conflicts for marginalized groups. By providing a critical appraisal of the topic, using the analytic method of philosophy, this work aims to deepen our understanding of how sports philosophy intersects with identity formation and encourages a thoughtful reflection on the role of sports in shaping individual and collective identities. Based on the findings, it is recommended that a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between sport philosophy and identity formation be developed. This includes promoting critical reflection on the values and norms embedded in sports culture, as well as considering the potential impact of various philosophical perspectives on individuals' identities.
