CRITICAL APPRECIATION OF THE CONCEPT OF BEING IN PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITIONS

Jude I. Onebunne Benjamin Chimezie Okoye
Abstract

This paper is an attempt in the concious articulation of the being-concept in philosophical traditions. It borders on the formation or the development of the concept of being in many traditions within the chequered history of critical thoughts. Philosophy, as a human enterprise enhances this consciousness with which one looks anew and deeper into the realities of life as they evolve. The concept of being remains as old as Philosophy as it questions on the urstoff of reality. All the premier philosophers, in different philosophical traditions, engaged in this critical search and appreciation of what it means to be. Using the philosophical instrument of historicity and hermeneutics, the researcher finds out that the concept of being started with the articulation of philosophy, crystallizing in contemporary times with different conceptual appreciation in many and different philosophical traditions.
