The study sought to find out the challenges and way forward towards in-service education of teachers in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria. Three research questions were formulated to guide this study. A total of 450 teachers were sampled out of which 75 teachers were selected for the study through simple random sampling technique. All the 25 school principals in secondary schools in Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State were used in the study due to the fact that the population is small. Mean and cumulative mean scores were used to analyze the data. The result of the study showed that teachers were members of the implementation committee on curriculum design and planning, in-service training course design, policy design and implementation, decision making and teachers professional body while principals on the other hand were rejected being a member of the implementation committee on planning of in-service training programme for teachers because they were not consulted. Both the principals and teachers agreed that problems of identification of needs, misconception, non-challant attitude of teachers, poor response to training by teachers, poor image of teaching profession and non-consulting of teachers were major factors that tend to hinder in-service education for teachers while involvement of teachers in decision-making, policymaking, organization of seminars, conferences, workshops involving teachers in curriculum design and planning and establishment of cordial relationship between federal and state ministry of education were strategies adopted to improve in-service education for teachers. It was recommended among others that government should as a matter of urgency fund teachers education to check the incident of non training of teachers regularly on knowledge and skills of classroom teaching.
