TOWARD TEACHERS’ DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AND THEIR ROLE IN FOSTERING CREATIVITY FOR QUALITY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Evidence abound, that the success or failure of any education system depends to a large extent on the quality, quality and the caliber of teachers that interpreters and transmitter of desired knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in the society. Towards teacher’s development programme and their role in fostering creativity for quality education in Nigeria. The paper discuss teacher development programme, creativity, creative person characteristics, types of creativity. It also discuss the role of the teacher in fostering creativity, factor that hamper pupils/children creativity concept of quality education. The paper further x-ray the benefits of quality education through effective teacher’s development programme, approaches for measuring quality education, teacher development for quality teachers and teacher development quality education. The paper concluded that quality of education, enlighten its citizenry and enhancement of the entire sphere of the society. It recommended that professional development of teachers should involve refresher training, career development training, continuing professional development, mentoring and in-service training should be adequately provided to teachers by government. This will enhance their up-to-date knowledge of current trends in educational system.
