Abstract

In times marked by social inequality, moral decline, and leadership struggles, the biblical concept of diakonia referring to acts of service or care for others within Christian theology remains a key principle for Christian leadership and community development. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the early church, diakonia emphasizes servant leadership, social justice, and selfless service as vital traits for Christian leaders. This study adopts a theological hermeneutical approach, interpreting key scripture passages to explore the concept of diakonia and its relevance for contemporary Christian leadership. Through an analysis of Mark 10:45, Acts 6:1-4, and 2 Corinthians 5:18, it demonstrates that diakonia extends beyond charity, representing a transformative approach to leadership, pastoral care, and social engagement. The study also addresses contemporary challenges faced by Christian leaders and offers practical strategies for renewing diakonia as a guiding model for ethical leadership and community work. By reaffirming service as a core element of Christian identity, this research calls for a renewed commitment to diakonia-led leadership to meet both spiritual and societal needs today.
