Development of local communities in Nigeria has been seriously militated against by a number of factors. These factors are externally/internally generated. It is no gain saying that despite the numerous potentials which building our local communities offers for a greatly transformed and developed society, it has remained a dream as a result of the several bottlenecks affecting local community development. The needs to consciously and strategically promote different approaches that deal with these bottlenecks become important. This paper thus explores Theatre for Development (TFD) approach as a key creative initiative that can be employed to address bottlenecks affecting local community development. Through a case study methodology, it shall provide an account of the TFD experience done in Zangon Tama community located in Giwa Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State, as a basis to expatiate on the application of TFD as a creative initiative for unlocking bottlenecks affecting local community development. The paper from the analyses concludes that the use of creative methods as options for addressing hindrances to local community development are quite key in turning around the downslide movement that currently plagues different local communities in Nigeria.
