Samuel Walele Amadi
Abstract

The influence of religion on the political landscape of many cultures cannot be over emphasized. This is why religion and politics are often described as good bed fellows. Bringing this home to Ikwerre Local government Area of Rivers State Nigeria, it is apparent that religious considerations largely impact many political decisions. The work holds that in Ikwerre LGA, many political actions are at the altar of merit, justice and fairness. This article critically x-rayed the extent religious consideration denominated political activities in Ikwerre LGA including political participations, appointments, job placements and other benefits. Max Weber's political economy theory of religion formed the lens of the study. It adopted the inter-disciplinary approach in data collection, analysis and discussion. It observed that religion and politics in Ikwerre LGA are intertwined. The study concluded that the separation of religious interests from governance will go a long way to giving the people a sense of belonging.
