REDEFINING HUMAN THOUGHT, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXISTENCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Rev. Fr. Elias Ifeanyi E. Uzoigwe, PhD
Abstract

This studycritically examines how Artificial intelligence (AI)challenges and redefines paradigms of human thought, knowledge, ethics, and existential meaning, which among other things, are the primary concerns of philosophy. Artificial intelligence is not merely a technological innovation; it represents a profound catalyst challenging philosophy to reconfigure its foundational premises. For me, the rise of AI, particularly in the form of generative systems and advanced decision-making tools, necessitates a philosophical reassessment of what constitutes knowledge, intelligence, understanding, and agency; for example, the distinction between information and genuine comprehension. Through four analytical dimensions namely, epistemic transformation, moral agency and responsibility, ontological reconceptualisation, and human-AI-co-agency, the study demonstrates that AI is not merely a reflection of human cognition, but a co-actor in shaping new forms of reasoning and being. Drawing on the notion of artificial wisdom, AI might aspire to transcend mere efficiency by integrating ethical reflections and moral insight into its operations. The synthesis culminates in advocating a novel philosophical framework that embraces AI as both interlocutor, collaborator, and corroborator capable of enriching human selfunderstanding while raising critical questions about autonomy, meaning, and responsibility. On that basis,I suggest that philosophy must engage interdisciplinarity with AIthrough conceptual analysis, ethical frameworks, and existential inquiryto guide humanity into a digitally advanced future. This is not a speculative endeavour, but a philosophical aggiornamento imperativeforthis competitive, contemporary, and digital era.
