MAINSTREAMING TRADITIONAL AND CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS VALUES IN NATIONAL BUILDING

Abstract

This paper explores the role of traditional and Christian religious values in nation-building. It argues that the principles and values of both traditional and Christianity need to be promoted in order to improve the socio-economic and political development of African nations. It begins by discussing the historical context of religion in Africa, and then goes on to consider the importance of traditional and Christian religious values within African societies today. It noted that these values have helped to shape and in the development of African nations, from their founding day till their present day. The paper then proceeds to consider how these values can be further mainstreamed within African societies in order to contribute to nation-building. The methodology used in this research is qualitative. The data was collected through primary and secondary sources. The paper concludes by highlighting the important roles of the religious groups in order to enhance the social cohesion that is necessary for nation building in Africa. It is believed that religious values from both tradition and Christian religions would make a great impact in nation-building in Africa.
