This paper investigates the concept of complementarity, using the myth of Daedalus as a symbolic guide for integral human development. Instead of viewing the myth simply as a story of creativity and tragedy, it is seen as a philosophical commentary on the human experience, particularly where reason and imagination, freedom and responsibility, as well as aspiration and limitation, all need to coexist. Daedalus, the skilled craftsman, represents the delicate balance between creativity and ethical boundaries; his downfall is not in his inventions, but in overlooking the need for harmony between power and wisdom. The logic of complementarity, therefore, is presented as an alternative to dualistic thinking that isolates opposites. It emphasizes relational balance as the path to human flourishing. By reflecting on this myth, the paper suggests that true development is not about one aspect triumphing over another, but rather about weaving together the various, interconnected elements of human life to foster a more complete humanity.
