THE ROLE OF “ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING ON STAFF PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCTIVITY” A STUDY OF YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY, YABA LAGOS

Abstract

This research work examined the on the job training on organization using Yaba College of Technology. A survey research design was used and seven hundred and sixty-five pensionable staffs of the college were targeted, using the self-administered “Employee Training and Organization Productivity Questionnaire (ETOPQ). One hundred and thirty-seven completed and correctly filled research instrument were retrieved and subjected to empirical analysis. The research questions were analysed using tables and percentages, while the stated hypotheses were tested using Chi-square analytical techniques through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings revealed that employee training significantly affected the productivity of Yaba College of Technology. Other findings revealed that onthe- job training an off-the-job training methods were significant contributions to the effectiveness of the Federal Government parastatal of government in Lagos State. The study was able to isolate significant factors that militated against effectiveness of training in the institutions. These findings formed the basis of the study recommendations and suggestions for further studies. The study strongly recommended that the polytechnic authority should take advantage offered by the Staff training and development of the registry to ensure that all employees are made to undergo compulsory annual training.
