Peter’s Mission to Samaria in (Acts 8:14-25): A Model for Contemporary Nigerian Evangelists

Ugochukwu Obumneme Ezewudo
Abstract

The study examined Peter’s mission to Samaria as recorded in Acts of the Apostles by St. Luke as a model for contemporary Nigerian evangelists. Data was collected using primary and secondary methods of the qualitative research approach. The research adopted the descriptive and textual critical method of analyzing data. The study reveals that some of the distinctiveness of Peter’s mission to Samaria is not yet manifesting in the lives of most evangelists in Nigeria. The implication of this is promotion of tribalism, denominationalism, and insincerity in prayer, ineffectiveness in mission field and egoism which can never encourage the true purpose of evangelism. The study recommends the need to embrace faith and prayer as virtue evangelists cannot do without, shun simony among Christians, the need for humility to be inculcated in their day-to-day activities, enlighten themselves with word of God in order to be very effective in the mission field, to see preaching of the gospel as an inescapable obligation, team evangelism, unity and fellowship of the believers.
