In our contemporary society, the two institutions of Family and Marriage have much by plagued by the many motivations of the western culture ranging from the pseudo philosophies, post-modernist ideologies to the ill cultural trends that have over and again tried to redefine the traditional understanding of these institutions established by God. And Pope Francis in this document Evangelii Gaudium draws our attention to something significant. That is, the renewing of the joy of the Gospel which is foundational to upholding the inherent values of these institutions amidst the growing cultures of existential falsehood regarding the dignity of marriage and the family life. This paper therefore, examines critically, the theological response to this issue, especially from the experience of the Nigerian Catholic environment, and more so, from the biblical tradition. The paper concludes by establishing the family as an institution that is believing and evangelizing, that is, a community at the service of love and a community in dialogue with God, the initiator of the family life.
