The focus of this paper is to review the many opinions on the future of the discipline of philosophy and the many views on the use of philosophy in the African context. It challenges the root of the crisis of ideas in African philosophy focusing particularly on the issue of hegemony and identity in a way that establishes the conditions for rejuvenating the African culture and heritage. The paper calls for a review of the African philosophical experiences in the context of the recent discussions on the use of philosophy in Africa and the implications. That is, what is the future relevance of philosophical studies in the African environment? And what has been the role philosopher in resolving the crisis of ideas in the African Philosophical practice? The paper concludes by stating that the pursuit has relevance and it remains in the service of the difficult struggles for freedom, justice and the dignity of the human person in the African environment.
