PLATO'S IDEAL STATE AND CONTEMPORARY NIGERIA

M. B. M. AVOSEH
Abstract

This paper seeks to draw a link between the socio-political atmosphere of Plato’s Athens of twenty-four centuries ago and twentieth century in Nigeria. In this regard, it avers that our present political views are akin to those of Plato’s time despite the twenty-four centuries gap. What link has Plato with Nigeria? What does this theory of an ideal state postulated centuries ago have to do with contemporary Nigeria? It concludes that the solutions which Plato recommended for the ills of the Athenian society of his time will perfectly suit the contemporary Nigerian society.
