This paper attempts to expose H.L.A Harts’s contribution to the understanding of Law. In the bid to apprehend this concept of law, a thoughtful consideration of what the nature of rule in Hart’s postulations becomes quite apposite and appreciated. In this light, the papers agrees with Hart that the union of the primary and secondary rule-types plays a pivotal role in yielding us an adequate concept of law, that is, one which makes it possible for people to identify commands and orders as primary sources of obligation.
