In contributing to the corpus of African philosophy, this paper examines the concept of matter in the thought system of Awolowo. Although Awolowo did not leave a systematic work on nature or the physical world, this philosophical discuss on matter is a construction from his various writings in other philosophical domains. For him, matter is atomistic in composition, dynamic and evolutionary in character. This thought system is sufficiently ingrained in his socio-political philosophy. Hence from the logic of reasoning this paper concludes that Awolowo has a philosophy of matter buried in his body of writings.
