This article offers some reflections on the history of the church in Benin and it surrounding regions. Benin, a rich and very powerful kingdom initially resisted most missionary efforts to lead the catholic faith however, it was Warri, a breakaway vassal of Benin, in their search for support, that welcomed the missionaries. This article concludes that the most formidable obstacle to the implantation of the church in the 15th and 16th centuries was the lack of the required infrastructure.
