This article joins the debate concerning the need for the acquisition of “a viable intermediate retaliatory nuclear capacity” by Nigeria in particular and African countries in general. It considers it imperative to acquire nuclear power for both security and status reason. As far as it is concerned, the prospects for the acquisition are bright notwithstanding the “formidable problem” that are there to overcome.
