Abstract

This study examines the preservation of Nigerian cultural values in selected Nollywood Home Videos. Despite the influence of globalization, Nollywood films have played a significant role in showcasing Nigerian culture and traditions. It serves as a vital medium for global cultural dissemination. This study aims to explore the preservation of Nigerian cultural values within selected films, to address the problem of increasing cultural erosion and Westernization. Utilizing Stuart Hall's Representation Theory as the theoretical framework and adopting a qualitative content analysis methodology, through the purposive selection and viewing of three home videos for data collection, which were subsequently analyzed using thematic coding for data analysis. This Reveal that core values like respect and communal living are prominently preserved despite the commodification of certain traditional practices. Leading to the conclusion that Nollywood remains a double-edged sword in cultural preservation. The paper concludes with support and creative innovation.
