By 1914, when the First World War broke out, almost all of Nigeria was under British colonial control. At the same time, the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria consolidated British colonial rule. Despite this impeccable achievement, the colonial government was confronted with the herculean task of establishing effective control over many communities throughout the country, especially among the minority ethnic groups. This paper examines the trends of rebellions among many indigenous communities in response to British domination of their territories. The paper adopts a content analysis approach to the data used in writing this article.
