Rethinking Early Childhood Care Education for Social-Economic Development and Democratic Reforms in Contemporary Nigeria

Momodu Ehiremhen Benedicta
Abstract

This study examines how early childhood care education can encourage socioeconomic development and democratic reforms among early childhood care development education (ECCDE) learners in contemporary Nigeria through the cultivation of necessary survival and social skills. This study believes that catching them young at their prime age could lead to better performance at their adult age. Because, poor followership could lead to poor leadership and lack of skills could also lead to poor labour force in the economy. Social-economic and democratic reforms are of significance in an emerging democracy like Nigeria. So, education as a reliable tool for conscious progression in society ought to be sustainably qualitative for it to encourage better social, cultural, economic and political order in society. This paper recommends that government educational policies in basic education should focus on the early stage of development by providing them with survival and social skills.
