It is startling to discover that heresies are as old as the early church. Even though heretical teachings played vital roles in the development of the Christian dogma and orthodoxy, it was expedient that the early church took uncompromising positions to defend what was believed to be the truth about God and His word. One of the doctrines that cause a serious contention in the early church was the Trinity. Today, the Trinity is still one of the difficult doctrines to explain and accept. The Bible teaches that Christ had two natures while on earth. He was fully human and fully divine. This claim has been challenged and rejected over the ages by some Christians. People like Arius held the view that Jesus the Son is not of the same essence and nature with the Father. In the late 19th century, a movement known as Jehovah’s Witnesses founded by Charles Russell adopted the teaching of Arius which denied the divinity of Christ. This work focuses on the Christological challenge posed y the resurgence of Arianism and its impact on the gospel in Africa and the urgent need to combat it.
